Now there are many OWBs in both the Milky Way and Pegasus Galaxies, traditional given either NATO Phonetic letter codes or Greek alphabet names, such as Alpha, Echo or Lambda Site. Later as they became more advanced and fear of an attack on Earth grew they were used as emergency evacuation sites, and on several occasions high ranking diplomats and later, high ranking IOA members have evacuated. Originally they were off world military posts used as back ups should a team not be able to return to Earth. They differ from Major Bases like the SGC and Atlantis due to their size and compliment. Off-World Bases or OWBs are smaller installations build on other planets.
